Top 5 Interior Trim Paint Colors: Add Some Excitement to Your Home!

If not White, then what?

When it comes to painting the interior trim paint colors, white has been the “go-to” for as long as painted trim has been popular. It used to be extremely rare to see a home that didn’t have one of two; either stained wood trim or white painted trim. Now, this is for a good reason. White painted trim makes a home look clean and contemporary. However, lately colored trim has become increasingly more popular, and we are all about it.

The idea of colored trim, at first, does seem slightly odd or scary. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea. However, when done tastefully, it can make your home look extremely unique and interesting. Here are some of our favorite trim paint colors, and how you can use them in your home.

Interior Trim Paint Colors

Gray

In a previous blog, we discussed choosing the perfect Gray color for your home. We went over the different undertones in gray paint. For trim paint colors, a warm gray color such as SW7018 Dovetail works beautifully. The warmth of this Gray color helps keep the room feeling cozy, without too stark of a contrast between the trim and wall colors. Style with earth tones and succulents and you have a desert oasis in your own home.

Blue

If you like color but are worried about it being too assaulting, deep blue trim might be the way to go. It adds an intriguing pop of color to a room but doesn’t drown you in it. Also, since you chose a deep blue for your trim paint color, such as SW6811 Honorable Blue, you can add other bright colors to your decor and furniture without the fear of them competing or looking childish.

Green

Green is a very trendy color right now. We are not only seeing it on walls but kitchen cabinets and trim as well. This is a great color because, depending on how you style it, you can either give your home a vintage storybook feel or a very modern look. A wonderful color reference for this would be SW6724 Mesclun Green. This muted mossy green color adds the perfect amount of interest without being too overpowering.

PRO TIP: Painted furniture is also very in these days. Match your trim color to a table or dresser, as pictured above, to give the room a cohesive look.

Black

In a previous blog, we discussed how painting kitchen cabinets is a cost-effective and easy way to elevate your space. The same can be said for black trim. There is no combination quite as classic as black and white. However, black trim not only modernizes a room but also draws attention to architectural details. It can take a very average room and make it extremely exciting. If you’re not a fan of color, but you still want your home to be interesting, black trim is the way to go. Although you may not expect it, there are many variations in black paint colors. For striking trim, we recommend SW6258 Tricorn Black.

PRO TIP: Furnish with warm neutrals, like pictured above, to keep the room from looking too cold and star

Seafoam

While this one may be a little more unexpected, Seafoam trim paint colors have been gaining plenty of popularity. This color trim is best used in bathrooms and kitchens. It turns bathrooms into a spa getaway and gives kitchens a soft rustic farmhouse look. Specifically, look for a muted seafoam or teal color like SW6463 Breaktime.
